Day 66 of 100 Days of 100 Ways To Rule Your World
ABOUT BURNING BRIDGES (Don’t Do It)
You’ve heard the old saying: “Don’t burn bridges”
While many people may be tempted to throw gasoline and fire a flare on that bridge that connects us to the past (past jobs, past relationships, past experiences, you name it).
Like Cortez did when he came to the new world, scuttled his boats (he actually sank them) and making a new life with no turning back. Well, we know how that turned out for Cortez. While there may be a need for “burning bridges” as in Cortez’s case, he was trying to prevent further mutiny among the crew.
However, for the most part when you quit your job or end a relationship (within limits) there is absolutely no real need to burn the bridge with that organization or individual(s). Who knows what happens in the future and you might need some kind of assistance from someone in your past. It would be best to keep things civil because the one person that could possibly help you the most might just be the one person you wanted to tell off the most but didn’t.
Thank you,
David Guerra
