Be Rubber Not Glue (Day 36) by David Guerra

Day 36 of 100 Days of 100 Ways To Rule Your World

BE RUBBER NOT GLUE

All through elementary, middle, and high school negative comments were commonplace as were the responses. First, it was “sticks and stones” then we graduated to “I am rubber, you are glue”. Still the negative comments continued. Heck, it probably continues to this day in some form or another in your life. Whether it is a co-worker calling you a name that you would not want your grandmother to hear or one politician calling another a cheater. It is all around us, in some cases it hurts and in the case of politicians it may be true.

There are some individuals that would get upset when they are called names. Then there are those that let the vicious words of others slide right off. How do they do it? How do they appear to go unscathed by the sharp tongues? They know, understand, and believe that they are NOT what others are claiming them to be. They know themselves enough to not fall for the trap that others are baiting them to fall into.

Those that shrug off the name calling know that those that are saying those words are FOOLS. They are behaving like little children who don’t know any better. As an adult, why would you want to go against someone with a mindset of a 7 year old? Think about it, would you really react with anger when a 7 year old child calls you a name? Of course, you wouldn’t. So why would you even entertain the thought of considering to go toe-to-toe against someone who chooses behave like a schoolyard bully by slinging such words around.

What if what they are calling you is true?

Simple: Say “Thank You for bringing that to my attention” and move on!

And YES, it is that simple. If you still don’t believe me, then try it the next time someone calls you a very negative and very derogatory name. Remember, you are rubber and they are glue and you know the rest.

Thank you,
David Guerra

To Forgive & The Mirror (Day 35) by David Guerra

Day 35 of 100 Days of 100 Ways To Rule Your World

TO FORGIVE & THE MIRROR

I invite you to revisit Day 29 “Letting go of the past” before proceeding.

Every once in a while, I hear about how a person needs to be forgiven for past transgressions. Then the words that follow “I forgive you for whatever you did” are said and as if by magic all is well in the world. Well, when it comes to certain religions it works almost that way.

However, when it comes to dealing with human beings things are a little different. We are dealing with another human not a benevolent god and things can get a little dicey. What if the other person does not want to be forgiven? What if the other person is not prepared to forgive you?

WHAT THE ????

How can someone not be prepared to forgive you? You are ready to forgive them and how dare they not be ready? Who the heck fire do they think they are? Surely, you are the better person because you want to forgive first, how can they treat you this way?

Interesting but all too real. There is one thing that concerns me. I often wonder if those individuals ever stop to think and reflect on why the need to forgive even exists. What happened that caused the need to forgive?
I have always been taught that it takes two to Tango. No matter what it will always take 2. Thus, the need exists to reflect and realize that Individual #1 may be the root cause as to why the trouble occurred in the first place. Thus, accepting that trouble goes where you go may answer the question as to why you have to forgive so many others in the first place.

The next time you are in a position where you MUST forgive someone, STOP, take a long look in the mirror and see things from the other person’s point of view. Who knows you might have to actually “EAT ALL YOUR WORDS, SWALLOW YOUR PRIDE, OPEN YOUR EYES” and APOLOGIZE!

Remember, apologizing is humbling and much better than to be thought of as being sanctimonious by declaring your need to forgive someone. Give it a try, will ya?

Thank you,

Travel For The Sake of Curiosity (Day 34) by David Guerra

Day 34 of 100 Days of 100 Ways To Rule Your World

TRAVEL FOR THE SAKE OF CURIOSITY

Pack your bags! Get out and hit the open skies or the dusty trail or the road that goes on forever. One of the most exciting and life-altering activities anyone can do is to travel. Whether it is to the shore, to the amusement park, to the next town over, to the next state, to the next country it doesn’t matter so long as you step beyond your neck of the woods.

Plane, Train, Bus, Cab, Car, Bike, Rickshaw it doesn’t really matter so long as you get out and about. Know that you might just find a new favorite place in the world. Heck, you might even move there. Who knows? You will but you do have to pack first (remember what mom said about clean underwear).

Imagine what your world view will be when you change your latitude, longitude, and altitude every once in a while.

Thank you,
